Back to Projects

The people we are working with do not want handouts or quick fixes. They do not want to be charity cases and pitied. They have goals and dreams and aspirations for their children and just need some help in getting started.
A small amount of money can enable someone to start their own business and therefore provide the means to move out of poverty and towards better health.

I once asked a sex worker in the slum if she was worried about contracting HIV. She replied "AIDS is in the future, my children need feeding now." This woman was desperately selling her body without using condoms for approximately 15 pence.

£5 will put tools worth £10 in the hands of someone and help them earn a living.
£20 can buy vegetables for a woman to sell and start her own vegetable stall.
£20 will enable someone to make and sell vital charcoal.
£100 will be enough to start a batik business employing and training up to 10 people.

We are dedicated to helping people help themselves. Our success is being able to move away from a project leaving it self sustaining.
